The UMAS (Malmö University Hospital) is located in Malmö, third city of Sweden. The hospital is today one of the biggest in Scandinavia: it is a point of reference for 1.6 million of inhabitants and it has 730.000 patients per year. 10% of the patients visit the Emergency Department. Feeling the need for an optimized patient workflow, the UMAS has tested Profilika® in the Emergency Department. During the testing period a total number of 1436 patients have been registered with a Profilika® wristband.
Profilika® allowed the hospital to spare resources and to improve the security of the patient treatment. The cost of Profilika® is comparable with the labelling system used today in UMAS and an analysis showed that the nurses could save 30 seconds per patient during the registration process.
The study estimated that the hospital can spare resources for a total amount of 30.000€ per year. The wristband and the labels use the Swedish social security number to identify the patients in an univocal way. The study showed also that Profilika® can be perfectly integrated with the IT systems of the hospital, in order to retrieve the patient information.
